Ahhh, Christmas morning.

Two little people enjoying the magic of the holiday and having fun....playing with digital devices???

Wow. When did this happen?

Cousins sitting side-by-side with their iPads and iPods -too cute to pass up this photo opportunity!

I thought I would make an ironic scrapbook layout to showcase their modern toys by making the page in a Vintage style.

I used www.picnik.com to make the picture look like a Polaroid.

The paper I used is from Sassafras Lass. I embellished the page with a paper doily and some handmade crocheted flowers.

Soup for the (Crafting) Soul

I saw the Homemade 6 Bean Soup line from Jillibean Soup this week and just had to have it!

I dug up some pictures I had of me crafting away from a few years ago. Scrapbooking is such a huge part of my life and I wanted to have fun with the handmade, crafty feel of this paper line.

I had lots of fun with this one and was able to layer tons of embellishments

(which always makes me feel justified in my scrapbook spending.

See honey, I do need all of these things!)

I used some great K and Co die-cuts that have been in my 'random stuff' drawer for years,

along with LOTS of glittery cardstock flowers.

Warm Christmas Memories

One of the wonderful things about scrapbooking is that the holidays are never really over. You get a chance to play with the pictures and fun holiday-themed paper and embellishments long after the last Christmas gift is opened.

We had such a great time seeing the family back in Las Vegas this year. The weather was beautiful and the time spent together was magical.

This layout was done using the new Bo Bunny Father Christmas line as well as lots of fabulous Prima flowers.

This page was all about layers for me. I used several layers just in the background cardstock alone and then added here and there until I found a collage that I liked (the page weighs like 5 pounds! lol).

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas season! Have lots of fun scrappin' those memories!

Wine and Dine

Nothing beats time with family. My fabulous in-laws came to visit me here in Tri-Cities, Washington, and we gave them the grand tour of the wineries in our area. Here is a picture of them on the balcony at Kiona winery. It was my first wine tasting ~ whoo!

The weather was perfect and the cheese and wine was amazing!

Book Club - My Fabulous Literary Lushes

I am part of an absolutely fabulous book club (appropriately named) "Literary Lushes".

We meet about once a month to discuss amazing books and drink high-end wine.

I love it. These ladies are some of the most wonderful women that I've ever met (including my dear mother-in-law).

When I found this paper in one of the new DCWV stacks, I knew it was perfect for my book club photos.

The paper was pretty perfect on its own, but I jazzed it up a bit with pearl earrings and bling-dazzling jewelery. I also matted the page with black and pink glitter card stock. I topped the layout off with some retro-inspired crystal brads.

100% Boy

I am lovin' the new Crate Paper Toy Box Collection! It is so flippipn' cute!

I have hoarded it for weeks, just looking longingly at it here and there. I finally had the chance to use it this week and love it even more than I did when I bought it!

My son received a vacuum bug catcher for Easter and we were on a mission to catch something awesome. He loaded up the stroller with all his supplies and topped it off with his favorite hat.

Boys are so much fun. :)

Layout Love

Sometimes I get so into "card making" mode that I forget how much fun it can be to make a scrapbook page!

I've re-discovered my love for scrapbooking recently (my first love when it comes to paper crafting).

This season's adorable paper lines and embellishments have really made crafting a breeze!

Another thing I love about making pages is that I can use lots of my embellishments.

I love decorating my pages with flowers, bling, rub-ons...basically whatever I can get my hands on. :)

I really love this layout. I'm really into banners right now, and I tend to use them everywhere.

I love the ginham print on the paper and the collage feel.

Shabby chic layouts are so much fun to make.

You really get the opportunity to use lots of fun goodies, from yarn to resin!

Make Your Own 3D Rosette Flowers

Wanna make some fun, 3D embellishments?

No special glasses required ~ these babies just POP with layers!

Here are the materials needed:

*scissors

*pop up adhesive

*glue gun

*rhinestones

*card stock

*images

*Storybook and Plantin Cricut cartridges

First, cut out the images you want to use (you can use digital collages, or even just punch out sections of pretty paper). I cut mine as 2 inch circles.

Next, use your scallop icon in your Storybook cartridge to cut out a black layer 2.5 inches for behind your image.

I used the flower icon (shown below) from the Plantin cartridge to make my flower layers. I cut one about 3.25 inches and then a black layer about 3.75 inches.

When they are cut, simply fold each layer in 1/2 (folding toward you) so that the edges of each flower petal stand up. Do that with both your patterned paper and the black flowers.

Using foam squares, layer the flower sections together.

After hot-gluing your image to your scallop layer, add rhinestones. I heat-set mine with a Tulip heat tool.

Now you can add them to your flowers with foam adhesive.

Simple as that!

These are fabulous to use on scrapbook pages, cards, frames and invitations. They make adorable party favors and cupcake toppers too!

Avast, Ye Scurvy Dogs!

Yar!

Our weather be good, so we decided to set out on a treasure hunt!

Me mateys and I followed the clues throughout the house...er...island to discover the wooden treasure box buried in the sandbox...er...exotic sand dunes.

Me first mate, Jackson and his swash-buckling cousins had so much fun with the adventure.

The candy and gold chocolate bounty were enough to keep 'em happy until they sailed off to bed that night.

More Chic Than Shabby

I love the shabby chic lifestyle!

It makes me feel all warm and squishy just walking through an Anthropologie shop! I run my hands along the silky soft quilts and smell the sweet fragrance of roses on each paper and twine wrapped soap.

Working on shabby chic inspired greeting cards makes me feel that way too. It gives me the cottage fix I'm looking for from time to time. I love to see the way that a person's eyes seem to soften and a tiny sigh escapes when holding one of my pink, glittery greetings. That's the feeling I want to inspire.

Has Christmas Gone to the Dogs?

I had an exciting project this week. My mom wanted me to make a special Christmas card for her hair dresser who loves dogs. Hmmmmm....OK.

I started searching Google for any interesting designs and eventually landed on this beauty. I was LOLing at my computer and knew it was perfect!

I embellished the curlers with Stickles and then made the snowflakes with a Sizzix die. I used sticker paper upside down for them and then added lots of loose glitter. Finished it off with a rhinestone brad and lots of tulle.

Inside, I wanted to do some kind of hair-themed statement, so I hand-stamped this unique Christmas sentiment:

I think it was a hit ~ my mom didn't even send it to her hair dresser for 3 days, as she wanted to show all her friends first. That's the best! :)

Happy Birthday, Honey!

Today is my hubby's 30th birthday! WHOO!

After a fun day of shopping at Paradise Pen (his new favorite store), we celebrated with pizza and Starbucks. Our 4-yr-old even did a fabulous birthday dance in the living room. Not too shabby.

I made Mike this cute card this morning. I have a tradition of making him hedgehog cards for all occasions. I loved this darling image. :)

I used Spellbinders dies for the shape (had to cut the black matting behind the image and yellow card stock by hand).

Cookie Swap Bucket

Just finished this custom bucket order. It was so much fun to work on! It's my first Christmas themed bucket order and I just love the way it turned out!

I used a lot of the Very Merry line from October Afternoon (one of my new favorite brands), as well as my new Winter Frolic cartridge from Cricut.

I made some glittery Christmas cookies using my SCAL software. I inked the edges of each cookie to give it a "baked" look.

This tag was lots of fun too. It's all about paper piecing! I made the gingerbread men by hand and added green brads for buttons. I then inked and stitched the tag.

The hot chocolate tag was also made by hand using my Winter Frolic cartridge and a Swarovski crystal.

Finally, I added this HUGE green ribbon and attached some jingle bells with thread. Yummy!

Chargers for the Win!

My father-in-law is a huge Chargers fan and I knew he was getting tickets to a game for his birthday, so I just had to make something football related.

So, what did I do? I busted out my trusty ol' Photoshop and got to work! I found his profile picture from Facebook and then removed his head (wah, ha, ha ~ mad scientist laugh) and added it to this football picture I found in a google search.

Love it! This picture makes me laugh every time!

I recently made this birthday card for a very special 4-yr-old. I thought the image looked just like her, so I was excited to make this unique greeting for her.

I was also in the middle of moving, so I only had about 1/2 my scrapbook supplies on hand (how did I make it through without my goodies, you ask? It wasn't easy!)

I had no access to buttons, brads or ribbon, so I had to be a bit creative. :)

I went a little Stickles crazy here and then embellished the card with tons of flowers and rhinestones. The scalloped ovals and swirls in the corners are from the Storybook Cricut cartridge.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,

Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,

"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door -
They must be bringing me a new My Mind's Eye layout!"

Ok ~ so I took some liberties there. :)

I've been having so much fun with the new My Mind's Eye Haunted line! I made both of these layouts this week using lots of colorful Distress Ink, along with Prima and Petaloo goodies.

I used kind of a collage technique with both pages and added TONS of crystals (all by hand) on the second page.

I used the new Happy Hauntings cartridge by Cricut to make the photo frames for both layouts.

I also enjoyed using lots of my Vintage style goodies (I have a tendency to hoard them).

Basic Grey Oliver Page Kit

I've been having lots of fun with the Basic Grey Oliver line lately. I bought the card kit, collection pack and page kit for the line!

This is the first Basic Grey page kit I've used and I'm really happy with it! It was super easy to use and included lots of goodies ~ from rub-ons to chipboard! The only items I added were thread (I did some sewing throughout), ink and buttons.

It was a fun afternoon project to do with my sister, too! We each bought a kit and had a quick craft day together.

I'm so glad that Basic Grey started selling page kits this year. I've been a fan of their card kits for a long time, too. I'm excited to see what they come up with next!

Back to School with Hello Kitty

My niece is starting the 4th grade tomorrow and I wanted to make her a special back to school card.

She loves Hello Kitty and I found this great SVG file for those of you who use Sure Cuts a Lot with your Cricut. I added red glitter to her bow using Martha Stewart's Garnet glitter and some Ranger Glossy Accents.

I also hand-cut the pencil and paper from the Cosmo Cricket "The Boyfriend" line of cardstock.

I used lots of sold cardstock and white ink to make the card itself look like a chalk board.

I'm off to see her now ~ hope she likes it!

My project of the week has been this wonderland of a mini-album. It took about 3 1/2 days of sanding and inking, but I'm so delighted with the results!

I used almost every sheet of the Hallowe'en Alice in Wonderland line from Graphic 45 on this baby.

On the front is a HUGE sparkly flower (3 layers deep) and a glazed brad by Basic Grey.

Upon opening the chipboard album, you're greeted with LOTS of fun ephemera to look at ~ hanging tags, hand-cut 3D embellishments, stick pins and ribbon! Each piece has been sanded and inked with brown and black. A photo will neatly tuck under the corner tear of beige paper.

The next page reveals a VERY merry un-birthday tea party! I made room for a larger photo here (you can tuck it underneath the strip) and a 3D pop-up title label with more of the glazed brads. Adding the black glittery flower at the bottom was my 4-yr-old's idea. Great eye, Jackson!

This next page is my hubby's favorite. He loves the rabbit tag with key charm at the top of the page. It pops up with lots of 3D foam adhesive. I've also tied it with brown string.

There is room for 2 more photos (you can tuck them under the ribbon) and a hand-cut Mad Hatter.

Finally, the back has more fabulous cardstock, all inked with several colors to give it an antique, burned look. The album is about 5.5x9 inches. Enjoy!

Mario Madness

My little monkey turned FOUR (cannot believe it) this month and we had a Mario Bros. themed party.

A good friend of mine even loaned Jackson a Mario costume ~ priceless!

I'll be honest ~ I was looking forward to scrappin' these pages for WEEKS! I love getting to work with cute embellishments!

I bought some Mario Bros. die-cuts from an Etsy seller in June (still need to figure out how to use my Sure Cuts-A-Lot software...) and then added some epoxy stickers that Jackson was kind enough to donate. I found this darling stitched card stock from We R Memory Keepers and layered on some DCWV video game paper. LOVE these pages!

I made a special tri-fold card for Jack and wanted to incorporate it on the layout as well.

Sun Kissed

I have been having so much fun with the Sun Kissed line from Bo Bunny this week! I find myself using it over and over again. The colors are so bold and beautiful ~ perfect for summer pages! I just finished the layout pictured above. I love scrapping ordinary days. Many times, they're even more fun to work with than holiday pages (too much pressure to make Christmas pages as magical as the holiday!)

The picture really captured the season for me. I can't count how many times Jackson has "helped" water the plants, only to come to the door covered in mud and soaking wet!

Jack and his cousin had a "blast" with the Buzz Lightyear rocket water toy. Again, Bo Bunny was the perfect fit!

The paper really lends itself to cutting out sections and layering.

Another fun summer memory has been the day we played Minute to Win It games in Nana's backyard. We had SO much fun and I cannot remember the last time I laughed so hard!

My mom was the first person to win a game (apple stacking). This picture is worth a thousand words ~ it's one of my favorite images of her.

I've also started cutting and layering the Bo Bunny Sun Kissed line for my summer cards. I had lots of fun with this collage greeting. I used a kitschy pin-up and added her to the Bo Bunny banner journaling square. Then, I inked some orange onto the card and added some 3D clouds.

Disneyland Album Done! Whoo!

We went to Disneyland in early May with my in-laws. I've been working on my 12x12 Disneyland album off and on ever since. It was a lot of fun, but I'm happy to be finished now and be able to show it off!

I knew I wanted to devote a 12x12 album to the trip (as it was our 3-yr-old's first time there and we took tons of pictures). I had several 12x18 poster prints made up at Wal-Mart (about $10 each) and then cut them to fit the entire 12x12 page (the tea-cup layout uses the entire 12x18 photograph).

I went a little crazy with the bling on this album (Disney is the magic kingdom and nothing says that quite like rhinestones), and saved lots of time (and money) by purchasing paper piecing die-cuts of the Disney characters on eBay. I found Mickey, Pluto and Goofy for $.99 each! I couldn't have made them myself for that price and that saved me having to purchase the Disney Cricut cartridge, too.

Pop-Up Graduation Card

I caught up with my music teacher from jr. high on Facebook (don't you just love it there?!) and she asked me to make a special card for her son's high school graduation. She said he loves guitars and his favorite color is red. She also sent a picture of him playing a guitar from his music video.

What a fun project! I knew I wanted to go 3D in some way to make all the elements fit. Here's how it turned out...

I hand-cut this hat and used the tassel from the Wild Card Cricut cartridge.

I found this guitar image online and then cut it out by hand (using VERY small scissors and watching my favorite reality TV show). I also used a needle and thread to add strings and finished it off with brads.

I had a lot of fun with this piece and am really happy with the way it turned out.

My teacher and her son loved the card and that is the best part of doing any project!!

Ready to Scrap!

Anyone notice that many brands are now offering pre-made layouts?

I found this pre-made page from K & Company at the scrapbook store the other day and HAD to pick it up! It made for one of the easiest layouts I've ever done!

I love all the paper piecing and stitching on the page. I added two felt embellishments from American Crafts and a quote sticker at the bottom (just because I always feel that I have to add something myself).

This layout came in handy when I planted my garden last month, too (here's a picture of my dog, hubby, son and sister-in-law).

We R Memory Keepers also offers lots of adorable pre-made double layouts for around $7.00!

It's so exciting to see the new developments in the paper crafting world. These ready-made pages really make it easy to get a lot of work done quickly, without having to sacrifice style.

I love finding bargains!

I went to the semi-annual garage sale at Scrappin' Time today and scored big time with this Bo Bunny grab bag! I got several sheets of double-sided card stock for $2! One person's trash really IS another one's treasure!

I came home and made this layout right away. It worked perfectly with the picture I had printed several days ago.

Most of the embellishments on the page were made from the card stock itself. I hand cut several arrows and stars. I used my Cricut to cut the title and the swirly brown border in the middle.

Disneyland Mini Album

We took our son, along with the in-laws, to Disneyland early this month. It was the first time our 3-year-old had been to the magic kingdom and he had a blast!

I decided to make a mini-album for my mother-in-law as her Mother's Day gift this year.

I just finished it today and wanted to share! :)

This is my favorite page of the album. I hand-cut Jackson and layered him on top of glittery polka-dot card stock.

I love this picture of Mike in goggles. It really captures his personality!

Cross Crafting

I'm a lover of crafts. If I can make something with my hands, I'm all over it (except for cooking dinner). Sometimes I just like to wander the craft store isles and find ideas for new crafts...until I remind myself of all the 1/2 finished projects waiting for me at home!

When two of my artistic passions come together, well, it's just magical. I've enjoyed merging my love of embroidery with card making. Sure, each card can take a week to make, but it's

a lot of fun to work on and I love that each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

Here are some of my recent projects using embroidery in my greeting cards:

Really happy with this one. I used glitter and watercolor pencil on it as well. You can check it out on Etsy for more photos.

This was one of the first big embroidery project cards for me (more pictures on Etsy). I had this piece next to my couch every night until I had finished the pattern. This project took me through America's Next Top Model and American Idol several times...

The power button card below has kind of a funny story attached. I made it one night and showed my hubby when he came home. I said, "Look! It's an X-Box card! Isn't that awesome?!" and he gave me a questioning look. I said, "See? It's the button that's on the X-Box!"

He walked over to the computer and pointed to the screen, then the speakers, then the TV remote. I hadn't realized that it was the universal POWER button. LOL!

Well, to me, it will always mean X-Box (that's why I chose the card stock and colors, too).

Such versatility with skulls now days! Who knew??? :) This girly one was also embellished with watercolor pencils and bling. I like the cupcake card stock and satin bow, too.

That completes my embroidered card tour. Hope it inspires you to mix and match your favorite crafts!

(Re)Discover the Joy of Stamping

Ever have the supplies that you just have to have, but then never end up using? Stamps are that never used must have for me. It wasn't until my 8-year-old niece came over this weekend that I re-discovered how much fun stamping can be (not to mention all the versatility)!

She asked to see my stamps so she could craft with Aunt Gen (that's what we do here at Gen Co.) I took all my stamp drawers out for her and realized that I have a metric ton of these rubbery embellishments!

I began organizing my stash and then I felt like playing. I spent the rest of the weekend making dozens of these cute little summery treats. My hubby came home Saturday night to find penguins as far as the eye can see!

I had so much fun! Granted, it does take more time than using ready-made embellishments, but there is a real satisfaction that comes with building from scratch.

I went all out on these mini-cards, too. I was feelin' it ~ from Stickles to watercolor pencils ~ it was crafting madness this weekend!

Inspired

I don't know about any of you, but I spend lots of time online getting ideas for layouts and cards. I love finding inspiration and there are so many amazing creations out there!

I got the idea for this Easter layout from one of my favorite page kit websites, Scrapbox Studios.

I had purchased this happy Easter paper a few weeks back, but wasn't sure how to build my layout around it. I know that Scrapbox Studios always offers such detail-rich layouts so I went there to get some ideas.

Here is the layout that inspired me:

I used the first page of this layout as my inspiration and tweaked it slightly to make it my own. I had a lot of fun with this page and even cut the bunny heads out of a second sheet to make them pop-up embellishments (I tried to photograph the dimension).

I also used some white Puffy Velvet fabric markers on the bunny tails. (If you haven't used this product, you should definitely pick some up ~ it's so much fun to use on so many crafts! You just wait for it to dry and then use a heat gun on it to make it puff.)

Paper Piecing Possibilities

Every once in awhile, I get into a paper piecing state of mind. I love the unique look that it gives and the flexibility it offers.

Here is a fun owl card that was made using brown and green embossed Bazzill card stock. It works so well with the Cosmo Cricket tree paper too!

My die-cutter of choice when paper piecing is the Sizzix. It's nice to utilize a tiny piece of paper and to be able to cut through multiple layers at a time.

I also enjoy finding other crafters that can make one-of-a-kind paper piecing embellishments for me! This special Alice in Wonderland card was made using the handmade die-cut from another Etsy selller, Kott Kreations.

This unique embellishment is completely pieced and penned by hand. I wouldn't have had the time (or patience...or know-how) to do it myself. This can be a little more expensive than doing it yourself, but it's a nice treat once in awhile and makes for an AMAZING card!

Here is another card in which I enlisted the help of a fellow Etsy crafter to make the paper pieced die-cut for me. This darling owl was handmade by Lisa's Handmade Cards. Her listing just grabbed me one night and I thought of all the potential in this terrific embellishment!

Whether you make it yourself, or seek out the help of "professionals", consider experimenting with paper piecing. There are so many unique crafting possibilities in your future!

Two Little Monkeys, Jumping in a Box

I really like this picture (I think the charm of my lovely, lovely son picking his nose and his cousin covering his eyes when I brought out the camera really reveals their personalities) and had lots of fun with this layout.

These boys are very colorful characters and I wanted to capture that with a bright layout. I used lots of paper from the Recollections Monkeying Around line that I picked up from Michaels.

I was in a mood to embellish, so that's just what I did!

I added some stitching around the round "patches" of paper and the little monkeys chipboard title. I also added lots of hand-sewn buttons and some brads. The picture is framed with a happy Daisy D's rub-on.

EGGciting Stuff!

We had a special Easter this year, celebrating a week late, due to allergies. It sure wasn't any less special, however (and the bonus is that we found LOTS of discounted goodies, since we bought after the holidays....hmmm....maybe Christmas in January this year?

The cousins had a blast looking for eggs in Nana and Papa's yard (note to self: next year, count the eggs before you hide them. Nana and Papa will probably be finding eggs well into the Fall).

I loved using all the new Little Yellow Bicycle Fresh Print Clothesline paper on these layouts. The colors are FABULOUS and have the Vintage feel that I love so much. I hand cut the tape measure here out of the back of the grey base card stock.

The picture above was made by adding a white frame in Photoshop and then printing one 5x7 and one 4x6 and then layering them.

I used lots of fun embellishments on this page, from felt K & Company to rhinestones. These layouts feel so much like Spring and I have them up on our refrigerator as we speak. I love walking by them. :)

Spring Clean and Simple

What I loved about fashion in high school carries over to what I enjoy about crafting, now that I'm 30:

You can be whatever you feel like today.

I used to love dressing in Vintage, modern, costume & even goth (sorry). The same interests (mostly) apply to my craft style. I love Vintage and part of my heart will always be with the 1950s kitschy retro, but sometimes I like to play with modern, sleek designs as well.

Spring makes me feel refreshed (at least until the allergies attack and I hide under my bed for a week). This week's collection of handmade cards are all about simple, yet colorful design.
